PFAS: You have a problem, we have a solution

PFAS contamination is one of Australia’s most pressing environmental challenges. A “forever chemical” issue that communities, regulators, and industries are grappling with today.

As highlighted in the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)’s national coverage, public demand for answers is growing: How do we detect PFAS? How do we manage it? And most importantly, how do we clean it up?

At Hemp Farms Australia, in collaboration with ENV Solutions and the Earth Plus Group (C-biotech, Fytolutions & Cordeel Group), we’re advancing PFAS validation trials using a proprietary bioengineered soil enzyme designed to catalytically cleave the carbon–fluorine bonds of PFAS compounds, thereby reducing their persistence and enhancing root-mediated uptake and degradation pathways during hemp-based phytoremediation.

Our aim is clear: provide industry and government with proven, practical solutions to restore contaminated land and water, while supporting agriculture and regional communities.

The health effects of PFAS continue to be studied, but experts say PFOA and PFOS have the strongest links to cancer. (Source: European Environment Agency)
