After two years of AgriFutures Australia backed national variety trials, the results have proved that our Ruby variety outperformed eight other varieties across eight sites with various sowing dates.
The NSW trial at Narrabri saw Ruby ranking highest for grain yield, bulk plant density and oil content, and second-best for WUE (water use efficiency) and oil TSW (thousand seed weight).
Ruby top-scored with 1.55t/ha grain yield – “significantly higher than that of all other varieties”, according to the field trial report by Associate Professor Guy Roth from the University of Sydney. Oil content was 26% and grain bulk density topped the results at 47.8kg
Additionally, for a late-flowering variety, Ruby displayed the best water usage, suggesting it is far more tolerant of harsh weather conditions and multiple ideal sowing windows across Australia.
